Club connections | Queens Park Rangers
As Swansea City prepare to face Queens Park Rangers, we take a look at some of the players who have represented both clubs over the years.
Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair enjoyed spells with both Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, but it was in south Wales where he made his biggest mark.
The winger made an immediate impact after joining the Swans in 2010, scoring 27 goals in all competitions during his first season as the club secured promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs. Sinclair scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, in the memorable 4-2 final victory over Reading at Wembley.
He added eight Premier League goals in Swansea’s debut top-flight campaign, finishing his time at the club with 36 goals in 82 appearances.
Tom Carroll
Tom Carroll had spells with both QPR and Swansea City during his career, having initially come through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur.
He initially joined Swansea on loan in 2014-15 before returning permanently in January 2017. He made an immediate impact, featuring in the historic 3-2 away win at Liverpool, and scored in a vital 2-0 victory over Stoke City as the Swans successfully battled to preserve their Premier League status.
After leaving Swansea in January 2020, Carroll returned to QPR that September on a one-year deal. He made his debut in an EFL Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle and spent the 2020-21 campaign at Loftus Road.
Àngel Rangel
Àngel Rangel became a Swansea City favourite before bringing his experience to Queens Park Rangers late in his playing career.
The Spanish right-back joined the Swans from Terrassa in 2007 and became a key figure in their rise from League One to the Premier League. He helped the club win promotion as League One champions in his first season before featuring in the 2011 play-off final victory over Reading.
Rangel remained a regular in the top flight and was appointed captain in November 2017. After making more than 250 appearances for Swansea, he left in 2018 and joined QPR that August. An Achilles injury disrupted his time at Loftus Road, and he announced his retirement in April 2021.
Jake Bidwell
Jake Bidwell swapped west London for south Wales in 2019 after three seasons with QPR.
The left-back joined the Hoops from Brentford in July 2016 and established himself as a regular in the Championship. He subsequently signed for Swansea on a free transfer in July 2019, quickly becoming an important member of the side.
Bidwell helped the Swans finish fourth in the Championship in 2020-21, featuring in both play-off semi-final legs. He left in January 2022 after making 92 appearances and scoring three goals.
Leroy Fer
Leroy Fer's time at Queens Park Rangers paved the way for a move to Swansea City, where he became an influential figure in the Swans' midfield.
The Dutch midfielder joined QPR from Norwich City in 2014 and scored six goals during his first season, including an effort in a 1-1 draw against Swansea on New Year's Day 2015.
Fer moved to the Swans on loan in February 2016 before making the transfer permanent that summer. He scored the winner against Burnley on the opening day of the 2016-17 campaign and continued to feature regularly over the following seasons. He also scored against former club QPR in a 3-0 Swansea victory in September 2018 before leaving the Swans at the end of that season.
