Consistency is key for U23s, says Richards

Gary Richards believes Swansea City Under-23s must deliver another impressive performance to get the right result against Leicester City tonight (7pm).

The development side target their third win in Premier League 2 as they face the Foxes at Holmes Park.

The under-23s go into the match following an unbeaten run of three games in league and cup that included a 3-1 victory against Chelsea earlier this month.

“We are very pleased with recent performances,” said Richards.

“We produced a very good performance to beat Chelsea and we need to make sure we continue to be competitive in the league this season.

“Confidence in the squad is high but we must stay focused and not get carried away with recent results.

“We are under no illusion that Leicester City are a very strong team – their results have shown that.

“We are expecting a tough game against young players that have first-team experience and will have to be at our best to get points tonight.”

New signing Matic Paljk looks set to be part of the squad with the Swans likely to make changes from the side that beat Chelsea.

“It is important our players take their opportunities,” Richards continued.

“We have a big squad with a number of players competing for a starting place and desperate for game-time.

“All of them want careers in football, so they must make the most of their opportunity when handed it.

“Consistency will be key in the league and as a team we must put in another good performance tonight to produce the right result.”
