Russell Martin praised the cool and clinical nature of Joel Piroe after the striker’s 18th goal of the season secured victory at Millwall for Swansea City.

The Dutchman struck the decisive blow in the 1-0 win at The Den, seizing on a loose clearance to fire a right-footed shot just inside the near post just 50 seconds into the second half.

It ensured the visitors got their reward for another fine away performance, with the Swans having now won the last three games on their travels.

Swansea have now won 14 of the 17 games in which they have scored first, whilst they completed a 16th clean sheet of the league season and their third in a row.

And Martin was delighted to see Piroe make the difference to reward a fine all-round team effort.

“If you wanted it to fall to anyone, it would be him. He is such a clinical player, good with both feet and a really good technician,” said the head coach.

“But the most important thing he has is the right mentality when he gets around goal. He has composure, calmness, and has the ability to relax and focus on his technique.

“He seems to be able to take a breath and have time, something all top strikers possess.”
