Steve Cooper has confirmed Connor Roberts picked up a shoulder injury in Swansea City’s defeat at Stoke.

The Wales international was replaced by Joe Rodon – himself making a return from a three-month injury absence – during the closing stages of the 2-0 defeat at the bet365 Stadium.

And head coach Cooper confirmed the change was enforced by an injury Roberts picked up in a tussle with James McClean.

"It was in unfortunate circumstances because Connor Roberts injured his shoulder with the push in the corner, I think it was James McClean," said Cooper.

"He was struggling to take throw-ins and he was struggling to raise his arms. He didn't want to come off, but he knew he had to.

"He couldn't play to the level that he would like to play at and we didn't want to do any further damage.

"Joe goes on and we're thinking he might get a header off a set-piece, but I just wish it could have been under more normal circumstances that he got minutes back.

"We also gave Marc Guehi a debut, and he will be better from the game as well.”

Cooper also confirmed that Kyle Naughton missed out on the game after coming down with an illness in the week.

"It was unfortunate really," added Cooper.

"Kyle has come down with a virus in the last couple of days. Unfortunately, he was not fit to travel.

"I don't think it'll be too bad. I think he'll be back with us for Preston. It's just that time of year where you pick things up.

"As far as I know, I think he'll be back with us."
