Cooper ready to step up

Oliver Cooper cannot wait for the new season to start as he makes the step up to Swansea City's under-23s.

The 18-year-old signed a one-year professional deal with the club this month after coming through the academy ranks at the Liberty.

Cooper featured 23 times for the under-18s last season, but is relishing the prospect of playing at a higher level in 2018-19.

The midfielder could play for the Swans’ development side for the first time when they play their opening pre-season friendly against Stoke Under-23s in Newport today.

“I am looking forward to playing with older and more experienced players,” Cooper said.

“It will be a big step up, but I know I can cope with it.

“The big thing is to keep improving my football. My main aim is to develop and try to push for a place in the team.

“Last season a number of players came through the academy and led the way at a higher level and I hope I can follow in their footsteps.”
