Steve Cooper felt very few players had taken their opportunity to stake a claim for more game time for Swansea City as a much-changed side were knocked out of the FA Cup at QPR.

Following a hectic festive schedule, Cooper had made 10 changes from the midweek win over Charlton, handing a chance to impress to a number of players who have had limited first-team action recently.

But the Swans ended up on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline as they were dumped out of a competition in which they had reached the quarter-finals in each of the previous two seasons.

And Cooper acknowledged some players in his side had not grasped the chance they had been given.

"We'll keep it in the dressing room. You don't need to be harsh to tell them what it was. At the end of the day it was a 5-1 defeat performance,” said Cooper.

"We changed the team today because there's been a lot of games, but we put a team out that we thought we could win, but for some reason we didn't want to take individual responsibility of making sure that performances were close to being of the level needed.

"The players had an opportunity today to get through to the next round and to try and stake a claim in the team.

“Some of them will be disappointed that they haven't played much football in recent times, but when you get an opportunity, you have to take it and that they didn't do.”
