Courtney raring to go at Leicester

13th August

Courtney Baker-Richardson believes the benefits of having a full pre-season under his belt will stand him in good stead for the new Premier League 2 campaign.

Swansea City Under-23s begin their second consecutive season in the top flight of development football this evening when they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The 2017-18 campaign had already begun by the time Baker-Richardson linked up with the under-23s after joining from non-league Leamington Town.

The striker found the net against West Ham United on his second appearance, but struggled to build on that goal and had to wait until January for his next strike in Premier League 2.

“It’s been a lot better for me this year,” he says. “I’ve been able to get into shape a lot quicker.

“I didn’t start pre-season with Swansea last year because I was still at Leamington.

“When I signed, I managed to score against West Ham United in the league, but then went on a long goal drought.”

The 22-year-old certainly has momentum on his side 12 months on, having scored in the pre-season victories over Bristol Manor Farm and Llanelli Town.

He is hoping to carry that form into the competitive season, starting with tonight’s fixture at Leicester, which you can watch live on swanseacity.com from 7pm.

“It’s a lot better when you’re scoring during pre-season because you can get your eye in and build confidence,” Baker-Richardson added.

“I feel fit and ready and, hopefully, can keep scoring goals going into the new season.”
