Davies: Young Swans relishing U23s challenge

1st August 2017

Mael Davies believes the Swans’ new intake of under-23s must make the most of their opportunity in Premier League 2 this season.

The defender is one of five academy scholars to make the jump from Swansea City’s academy into the development squad for the 2017-18 campaign, alongside Marco Dulca, Causso Darame, Keiran Evans and Liam Cullen.

And the right-back who made 23 appearances for the U18s last campaign admits he can’t wait for the opportunities PL2 offers.

“I am looking forward to this season,” said the 18-year-old.

“It has been a big step up for the five of us and you immediately recognise the quality of football is better and the intensity is higher.

“In training you don’t get much time on the ball, so you have to think quicker and make sure you make the right decision faster.

“But we are enjoying the challenge of playing at this level. This season will be a big challenge, but one we have to be ready for.”
