Bafetimbi Gomis scored a late winner as Swansea City beat Aston Villa to move eighth in the Premier League on March 21, 2015.

The French striker was on target with three minutes remaining at Villa Park as Garry Monk’s side remained on course for their highest top-flight finish since 1982.

The Swans arrived in the West Midlands aiming to respond following back-to-back defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

They made a bright start with Gomis forcing a smart save out of Brad Guzan after just five minutes, before Wayne Routledge saw a shot cleared off the line by Ciaran Clark later in the half.

At the other end, Villa came back into the contest as they looked to build on a run of three consecutive victories, including a thumping 4-0 win over Sunderland the previous weekend.

Lukasz Fabianski saved well from Fabian Delph, while ex-Swan Scott Sinclair was off target for the hosts.

But it was the visitors who clinched the points with a devastating counter-attack three minutes from time.

Routledge’s terrific ball with the outside of his boot sent substitute Jefferson Montero. The Ecuadorian then sent an inviting ball across the area, where Gomis arrived to turn past Guzan.
