Swansea City were preparing for the League One play-off semi-final clash with Brentford on this day in 2006.

Kenny Jackett’s Swans side had enjoyed a fine first season back in the third tier having won promotion in their final campaign at Vetch Field, 2004-05.

They ended the regular season in sixth place, meaning a play-off meeting with Martin Allen’s Brentford side who had finished third.

"It will be a fantastic occasion in front of a full house," Jackett said in the build-up to the tie.

"You don't get to this stage of the season and not know about the opposition, but it's about ourselves continuing to improve."

When the first leg came around the following day, Brentford went ahead at the Liberty through Jay Tabb, but Sam Ricketts’s late goal rescued a draw for the Swans.

Jackett’s side then won the second leg 2-0 thanks to a Leon Knight double – but were beaten on penalties in the Millennium Stadium final by Barnsley.
