Russell Martin has said it is unlikely Joe Allen will feature for Swansea City ahead of the World Cup break ,but has confirmed that Ryan Manning and Jamie Paterson will be in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Bristol City.

The Swans head coach confirmed that for midfielder Allen, the focus is on getting him fit to represent Wales on the biggest stage.

“I don’t think Joe will be playing for us before the World Cup. We’re being honest about that,” he said.

“We’re taking the Swansea City hat off and all our focus now is on Joe and getting him ready to play on the biggest stage with his country.

“Everyone at the club is focusing on getting him ready for the World Cup. If we can do that, and he does well for Wales, that’s a benefit for us as a club when he comes back.

“It’s always about the player and the person first. He’ll be giving everything he’s got – as will we - to get him to Qatar.”

There was more positive news for Manning and Paterson who are both in contention for the Bristol City clash.

Manning has missed three matches with a hamstring strain, while Paterson has been struggling with a groin issue in recent weeks.

“We have Ryan Manning back for tomorrow – which is great for us,” Martin added.

“Ryan has been one of the top performers. He has such good quality and can play in a number of positions, so to have him back is good news for us. He was disappointed to miss the Cardiff game, but it’s good to have him back.

“Jamie Paterson is back in the squad tomorrow which is great. It’s going to help us get through a really tough schedule.”
