Elijah Just | Teammates played a huge role in Swansea decision
New arrival Elijah Just admits high praise from teammates played a vital role in his move to Swansea City as he becomes the club's third summer signing.
He signs on a three-year deal from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, with an option of an additional 12 months. Just will wear the number eight shirt.
The winger who made the switch to Scotland in 2025, made 43 appearances in all competitions and scored seven goals over the course of two campaigns in the Scottish Premiership.
In his debut season for Motherwell, he was shortlisted for PFA Scotland's Premiership Player of the Year and won Motherwell’s Player of the Season award.
He arrives in south Wales having recently represented his country on the biggest stage in world football, and admits joining Swansea is a moment he has long been working towards.
“I’m over the moon, to be here now is pretty cool,” said Just.
“I’m lucky to have Marko [Stamenic] here, we’ve obviously spoken on the phone a lot and he’s told me a lot about the club, and the playing style.
“Welshy [Stephen Welsh] is here too. As soon as Swansea showed interest, I researched as much as I could and it’s an incredible club.
“I spoke to him, and he is enjoying his time here very much.”
The New Zealand international garnered much attention at the 2026 World Cup, scoring two goals in the All Whites’ opening group stage game against Iran, and netting against Belgium in their final fixture.
His opening goal against Iran was nominated for Goal of the Tournament, whilst he also became the first player from the New Zealand National Team to score a brace at a FIFA World Cup.
And his three goals put him top of the list of men’s goalscorers for New Zealand in the tournament.
“It was a long journey, to make it to a World Cup with all the boys was so special,” he added.
“The stadiums and the fans were incredible. We were a little disappointed not to make it out of the group, but we had a great time.
“Scoring was an unbelievable feeling. In a World Cup, you know games are going to be tough. I never thought I would score, let alone three goals.
“New Zealand doesn’t have that much history at the World Cup, so hopefully there’s many to come.”
Most of his senior experiences have come in the New Zealand and Danish Pro Leagues as a youngster, before moving to the United Kingdom in 2025.
But Just is excited by the prospect of challenging himself in a new environment, as he steps into the English football pyramid for the first time and hopes he can have a special impact at Swansea City.
“I can’t wait, it’s something I’ve wanted to do in my whole career,” he said.
“I’ve watched a lot of Championship games, and it’s a tough league. I’m looking forward to playing many games, I think it’ll suit me well.
“I’m looking forward to being out there with the boys, contributing and hopefully, we can do something special.”
