Ben Cabango reflected on a “real proud moment” after his first goal for Swansea City moved Steve Cooper’s side to within a point of the Championship play-offs thanks to a 3-1 win at Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old fired the Swans ahead just before the break as the visitors came from behind to claim three vital points in the Midlands on Wednesday night.

Cabango’s shot deflected in past Blues keeper Lee Camp as the centre-back, whose other senior goal came in the Champions League during a loan spell with The New Saints in 2018, opened his account for the Swans in his 20th appearance under Cooper.

And he was naturally delighted to have got off the mark for the club.

Birmingham (A) Celebration

“It’s a really proud moment for me. I am delighted to get off the mark,” said Cabango, who was mobbed by his team-mates after scoring the goal.

“No matter how they go in, even it’s via a deflection, they all count.

“Connor’s found a way into the box and I don’t know why I’m still there, but it’s come to me and I struck it with my right foot and it’s found the net.

“I didn’t really know what to do when I scored. I can’t say I’ve practiced a celebration!

“It was a crucial time though as we were 1-1 at the time. I felt the goal was coming for us, and I was delighted it was me.”
