Flynn Downes relished his first experience of the south Wales derby, and wants to help Swansea City seize their chance to make a piece of history on Saturday.

The Swans head to Cardiff City Stadium with the opportunity to complete the first league double in the 110 years of the derby, having won the first meeting 3-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium back in October.

For midfielder Downes, 23, that was his first glimpse of the rarefied atmosphere that goes with one of the biggest days in the Welsh sporting calendar.

It was one he loved, and he is eager to sample it again when the Swans and Bluebirds lock horns once again.

“It is an incredible occasion, and it’s incredible to think that no-one has ever done the double,” he said.

“But that just tells you everything about the fixture and the rivalry.

“With all of the challenges we have had across the season, when the fans have stuck with us, to do the double would be very special.

“It’s a chance to make history, and you don’t get many opportunities to do that in a career.

“I’ll be honest and say I did not realise just how big it was until I moved down, and I loved my first experience of it earlier this season.

“Everything about it was spot on, the atmosphere, the build-up. So, I am looking forward to it, I can’t wait for it.”
