'Four in a row a very good achievement'

Cameron Toshack has heaped praise on Swansea City Under-23s after they made it four consecutive victories in Premier League 2 on Saturday.

The young Swans began 2018 with a 2-0 success over Chelsea at Landore thanks to goals from Adam King and Liam Cullen.

That made it four league wins in a row for the Swans and Toshack insists the players should take a lot of pride in their current form.

“Winning four in a row in this league is a very good achievement,” the under-23s coach said.

“Very few teams achieve that so we’re very pleased to have done it.

“I thought for the most part in the game we were really good and we were very competitive.

"Our first half was better than our second half but we knew they would create challenges for us. Overall, we were good value for our victory.”

The Swans made nine changes to the side beaten by Athletic Bilbao B in the Premier League International Cup in December, with some players being called up to the first team or sent out on loan.

But Toshack believes they development side adapted well and feels they will take plenty of confidence into their next Premier League 2 match against Derby County a week on Monday.

“Gary (Richards) and I always speak about the importance of the players being clear about their roles and responsibilities within the systems that we try to play,” he added.

“It’s pleasing to see that for most of this game, they delivered what we were after.

“Playing away from home is a little bit trickier for all teams in this league and Derby will provide a real challenge.

“But it’s one that we’ll go into full of confidence we'll be and looking forward to.”
