Some of the FPA committee pitch side to launch memory walk for Alzheimer's Society Cymru

Members of the Swansea City Former Players' Association kicked off their fundraising activities in front of the home fans when the Swans hosted Hull City.

Some of the committee members were pitch side for the launch of their memory walk in aid of the club's charity for the season, Alzheimer's Society Cymru.

The committee will be joined by several former players for the walk, which takes place next month.

The route includes Swansea Bay, Vetch Field, the Swans’ former home and will end at the Swansea.com Stadium.

There are in excess of 46,000 people living with dementia in Wales. That figure is more than double the capacity of the Swansea.com Stadium.

FPA chair, Lee Trundle, is hoping that fans will help with the fundraising efforts by donating and sharing the details on social media.

"We all know someone who has been affected, directly or indirectly, by dementia and as footballers we've all watched with interest the ongoing research into traumatic brain injuries and a possible increased risk of dementia," he said.

"Coronavirus has made life difficult for everyone but if you have or are caring for someone with dementia, those challenges increase significantly, so the more we can do to support those who need it the better."

A Just Giving page has been set up for fundraising. Donations can be made via this link.
