Freddie Woodman has revealed how meditation has helped improve his performances for Swansea City in 2020.

The goalkeeper has enjoyed a fine season so far between the sticks since arriving on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.

He has kept 11 clean sheets in 37 Championship appearances – on top of three penalty saves - with Steve Cooper’s side sitting just three points adrift of the play-off spots before the football programme was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Four of those clean sheets have come in the 12 games played in 2020. And the 23-year-old believes his performances have been boosted by the new addition to his preparations.

“I’ve been doing a lot of reading in my spare time,” said Woodman.

“I’ve been reading a book on meditation, and it’s been great. I’ve meditated since the start of the year and I’ve benefited so much from it.

“It’s all about different techniques and it’s really helped me. I’ve done it before games and it’s made me more mindful and focused during the match.

“I’m still doing it now and it’s proved very useful during self-isolation.

“I’m nearly finished with the book, but I’ve got a book on Ayrton Senna that I’m going to throw myself into next so hopefully I will not only enjoy it but learn from it too.”
