Fulton: Milestone shows hard work is paying off

Jay Fulton is set to rack up his 50th Swansea City appearance this weekend, and believes the milestone shows his hard work and perseverance is paying off.

All being well the midfielder will bring up his half-century in a Swans shirt when Millwall visit the Liberty Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

It will come just over five years after the Scot first came to SA1 from Falkirk and initially linked up with the Swans' age-grade set-up.

He made his debut in a 4-1 win over Aston Villa in April 2014, but found it hard to nail down a regular first-team role and he has had loan spells with Oldham and Wigan along the way.

But he has been a mainstay of Graham Potter's squad, and his 24 outings to date during the 2018-19 campaign is his best return yet during his time at Swansea.

And, while he would probably have preferred his 50th appearance to have come around sooner than it has, Fulton is pleased to be making his mark in South Wales.

“Those milestones are always good to reach. It shows that you are doing something right," said the 24-year-old.

“Hopefully I will do well and look to set my sights on the next one.

“This season I have been able to clock my appearances up a lot quicker with some good game time under Graham Potter in the Championship.

“I think it shows the hard work that goes on behind the scenes is paying off.

“But it is just a number at the end of the day. My main focus is to be on the pitch as much as possible to help the team get the win.”
