Gonçalo Franco available for selection ahead of Burnley clash

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos has confirmed Gonçalo Franco will be available for selection for Saturday’s home Championship clash against Burnley.

The midfielder has yet to feature this season after suffering an ankle injury that required surgery during pre-season.

However, his rehabilitation has gone smoothly and he has returned to full training with the rest of the first-team squad.

And Matos will have the Portuguese in contention for Saturday’s clash against the Clarets.

“Franco completely trained with the team today and that’s the only thing that changed (in terms of availability)," he confirmed. 

“The squad is looking good and Franco is a possibility for the next game.

“I’ll always be glad to have him back. Franco is a real big player for us, was really important for us last season, and has a lot of things that are important to us such as his game and identity.

“For him it’s about step by step towards being fitter and we use him when we believe it’s the right time.”

Matos also confirmed Ross Stewart is recovering well and is now into the latter stages of his rehabilitation from a quad injury, while Cameron Burgess remains a long-term absentee for the Swans following his Achilles injury.

“Ross is in his final few weeks of rehab. We’d probably be looking around international break, but he is doing well," he added.
