Grimes relishing link-up with attacking duo

Matt Grimes is relishing the responsibility of providing the ammunition for Swansea City's attacking pair of Daniel James and Oli McBurnie.

The Wales winger and the Scotland striker struck up a potent understanding during their time in the Swans' Under-23s' set-up, and that has carried over into their first full season of first-team action.

McBurnie is the Swans topscorer this season, while James is among the club's leading assist contributors after teeing up Bersant Celina in Saturday's win over Bolton.

Midfielder Grimes' prompting and sharp distribution in midfield has played its part in allowing Swansea's forward players top strut their stuff in the final third to great effect at times, and he was his usual busy and efficient self against the Trotters.

The 23-year-old says the link-up play between James and McBurnie has been a real strength for the Swans, and provides a real outlet he is more than happy to be able to utilise.

“They’ve both linked up really well all season. They’re top, top players – Dan with his pace and Oli with his intricate play," said Grimes.

"They’re really good team players to have in the squad that we can rely on to get goals and assists.

“It’s perfect for me. I’m happy to get on the ball, give it to them and let them do what they want with it! Even if what they try doesn’t come off then so be it; I’ll keep getting the ball and giving it to them."
