Harry Darling is excited to be working with Luke Williams again as the new Swansea City head coach completes his first week in charge of the club.

While this is the first time the pair have worked together in SA1, the former Notts County boss worked with the centre-back as the assistant at MK Dons.

And Darling revealed how Williams has wasted little time making clear what he wants from his team as he looks to deliver a positive, possession-based on-field identity.

“It’s been a really good week. The coach has made a great impression,” said Darling.

“A lot of us know him already and I think that helps. It’s an exciting time and we are looking forward to working with him.

“I really enjoyed working with him at MK so I know him as an assistant. He is probably different as a gaffer, but I loved working with him so I’m excited about working with him.

“I think his style will be a bit different. Already, he has shown us patterns in training, and as a group we want to implement it on matchdays.

“I think they’ll be similarities to how we played previously but all gaffers have different ideas.

“I’m sure it be similar to the possession style we have had. As a group, we think that’s where our strengths lie, people can see that, and that’s why we are looking forward to it so much.

“It is a slightly different training style, and slightly different patterns but it is something we can get used to quickly.”

Darling also reflected on his own performances over the first part of a season which has seen him deployed at both centre-back and right-back.

It’s his second campaign at Championship level and, while he feels he has learned a lot after getting a season under his belt, he is hungry to keep improving.

“I am happy with how I am playing,” he added.

“I feel this season has been very different to last season for me, but I want to keep playing and developing.

“My mentality has changed, last season I think I took the step up for granted but I feel I more ready for the league this time and I just want to kick on.

“I’m happy to play wherever. I’ve enjoyed my games at right-back. It isn’t my preferred position, but I can do a job there and I’m happy to do that for the team.

“Every time I go forward, I get a nosebleed! But it is enjoyable and if I can do a job for the team I’m happy to help."
