James targets more minutes

13th October

Daniel James is intent on seizing his chance with Swansea City Under-23s after returning from a short loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

The winger ended his stint at the New Meadow by mutual consent at the end of August with opportunities limited at the League One leaders.

The 19-year-old has since recovered from a hernia to help the young Swans to recent wins in the International Cup and Checkatrade Trophy.

James came off the bench to net a brace against Celtic before supplying an assist against Newport County during Tuesday’s victory at Rodney Parade.

Now he is determined to help the U23s bank more points in Premier League 2 when they face Chelsea tonight (7.05pm) at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground.

“It has been great to get back on the pitch,” he said.

“I’ve come back into the squad and worked hard to get minutes against Celtic and Newport.

“It is good to be back but now I am hoping for more minutes in the league as I continue to recover.

“Reality hit me by going out on loan. It was a harsh reality but it has made me more determined. It was a good experience and I think I can take good things from it.

“Now I am back at Swansea I want to prove myself - it was just a move that didn’t work out for me but I know I can play senior football.

“We have had two good results in cup competitions, now we want to get more points in the league.

“Chelsea are mid-table at the minute but they have a lot of good players in their ranks and tonight will be a big challenge.”
