Jay Fulton says Swansea City are enjoying their football under head coach Vitor Matos, with togetherness and a positive environment underpinning their record-breaking start to the season.

The midfielder, who has spent 12 years at the club, has experienced plenty of highs and lows during his time in SA1 but is relishing the current atmosphere as Swansea enjoy their best start to a league season in 103 years.

With the Swans setting the pace at the top of the early Championship table, Fulton believes the strength of the squad and competition for places have played a key role in their impressive form.

“It’s been really enjoyable. I think you can see it from the games we’re playing and how together the team looks,” he said.

“The training ground every day is a good place to come in. That obviously helps when you’re winning, but the environment the manager has created is a good one.

“Since he’s come in, he’s brought a new freshness to the team around the building. Everything’s been positive so far, so I think everything seems to be clicking just now.

“It feels like a bigger squad. It feels like there’s a lot more depth and quality.

“The personality on the pitch and the freedom the manager gives a lot of the players are important.

“I think the bond you build by winning games keeps strengthening. Hopefully, we keep going that way.”

Fulton has played an important role in Swansea’s impressive campaign so far, contributing to the build-up to several of the side’s eye-catching goals.

The 32-year-old admits he is also enjoying his own football again after a frustrating start to last season, crediting Matos with helping him rediscover his form and confidence.

“Obviously I’ve been here a long time now, and last season, the start of the season was a frustrating one for me,” he added.

“Since the manager’s come in, I feel as if I’ve brought a bit of form back to myself.

“I’ve got a really good relationship with the manager. I don’t know how it works, but he’s just instilled a bit of confidence back in myself and a bit of belonging again. I can only thank him for that.

“At any point I can come on the pitch and help the team, it’s nice. To be able to be involved in the goals and the way we’re playing now is just fantastic.”
