Jenson Seelt | It was important to keep that winning spirit
Jenson Seelt savoured his first league start for Swansea City after helping his side secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over Millwall on Tuesday night.
Ronald’s 90th-minute strike sealed a fourth successive win for the Swans, who maintained their position at the top of the early Championship table and continued their best league start to a season in 103 years.
Seelt, who joined on loan from Premier League side Sunderland during the summer, played a key role in helping Vitor Matos’ side secure all three points and record another clean sheet.
The Swans had to show plenty of resilience to keep the hosts at bay in a hard-fought contest at The Den, before Ronald delivered the decisive moment deep into stoppage time to spark celebrations among the travelling Jack Army.
And Seelt was delighted with the result, highlighting the importance of another victory in maintaining the team’s confidence and momentum as the Swans claimed their seventh win in 10 league games.
“I enjoyed it 100 percent. I’ve been waiting for it for a long time, been eager to play and I think I’ve been able to show myself and give the fans a glimpse of what they can expect from me,” he said.
“It couldn’t have gone any better really; a last-minute winner, three points away from home and another clean sheet.
“It was big for everything, team confidence, team morale, just for everyone and everything. We’re really happy with that one.
“It was important to keep that winning spirit. It gives you so much confidence as a team and we’ve got to take advantage of that as much as we can now.
“Saturday won’t be easy again as they’re one of the best teams in the league, but it’s a sold-out home end and we know we'll have the fans behind us for 90 minutes, which will be massive again."
The Swans have now recorded five clean sheets this season and conceded fewer goals than any other side in the Championship, letting in just seven in their opening 10 league games.
Seelt was quick to highlight the collective effort behind their defensive solidity and the confidence it brings to the team.
“To get as many clean sheets as we have so far this season is massive,” he continued.
“It gives the team a lot of confidence, especially at the back. We know if we don’t concede goals we can’t lose games and we know we’ve got great attacking players who can score.
“Clean sheets aren’t just about the defence, it’s about everyone. It’s important that we just keep building together now.
“Attitude is everything in the game. When you’re drawing in games and maybe it’s a bit of backs against the wall, you can win with just one moment and having that strong mentality is important.
“The team being so close together is helping a lot and long may that continue. The fact that we stay positive in games when things aren’t going our way says a lot about this team and its character and spirit.”
