Jess Williams | We have to start games better
Swansea City Women’s captain Jessica Williams says the team must start games better after their 3-1 defeat to Wrexham.
Goals from Ava Suckley, Katie Barker, and Lili Jones secured victory for Wrexham, while Stacey John found the net for Swansea in the first half.
The Swans conceded twice in the opening 11 minutes which was a repeat of last week’s defeat at Cardiff, where they found themselves chasing the game from as early as the second minute.
After conceding the early goals, Swansea were the better side for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t find an equaliser before Jones added a third for the visitors with 30 minutes remaining.
Williams admitted Swansea are making life hard for themselves by conceding so early on and emphasised the need for the team to “start games as we finish them.”
“We are really disappointed. I think the first 10 minutes really hurt us because conceding early will always put us on the back foot in a game which we have done two weeks in a row now which makes it difficult for us to fight back,” she said.
“After the first 10 minutes we were the better side all game, we had plenty of chances and had good possession of the ball, but we need to learn to be more clinical in the final third and putting away the chances we have.
“We love getting the chance to play in the Swansea.com Stadium, it is something we don’t take lightly and we always give it our all and see it as an opportunity that we really want to grab with both hands. We are just disappointed to not come away with three points in front of the fans.
“It has been a tough couple of weeks but we will bounce back. We have got positives to take away from the game because I think we were the better team and we will look to start games as we finish them.”
