Jess Williams vs Aberystwyth

Swansea City Women’s defender Jess Williams has backed her teammates to bounce back quickly after a disappointing draw with Aberystwyth Town Women.

Niamh Duggan’s stunning free kick put the Seasiders in front just before the half-hour mark, and – while the Swans dominated possession and chances – they found Margot Farnes in inspired form in the Aber net.

They eventually found a way past the stopper when Williams, who recently returned from injury for the Swans, bundled the ball over the line in the final minutes.

The defender was disappointed to have dropped points in the Genero Adran Premier title race, but has faith the squad will show resolve and be ready to go again ahead of a big month, which will see them face Cardiff City in the league before competing in two cup semi-finals.

“It is frustrating, we will take a point but we could have got a lot more out of the game I think,” Williams said.

“It’s a massive week for us now, we knew this already, but we always take it one game at a time.

“We will go into training this week fully focused on the game ahead, this one is behind us now, it’s frustrating but we will move onto the next 90 minutes.

“It’s a big game next week, all we can look at is what is coming in the future and in our next few games.

“We are looking at this as if we’ve just lost and we haven’t, we’ve got a point against an organised side.

“We’re looking forward to these next few games, it’s a big couple of weeks ahead of us and all we can do is focus.

“I’m glad to be back playing again, I’m feeling fit so hopefully I can get some more minutes under my belt and keep giving my best for the team.”

The match took place on World Cancer Day, with the Swans opting to wear the ‘Tackling Cancer Together’ third kit which supports local cancer charity Maggie’s.
