Joel Piroe has his sights set on hitting the 20-goal mark for Swansea City and helping Russell Martin’s side finish the season in style.

The Dutchman has been a sensation since joining from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

He arrived in SA1 with just three senior goals to his name, but took his tally for the season to 18 when he fired home an instinctive right-footed shot for the winner at Millwall on Tuesday night.

Sixteen of those goals have come in the league, meaning he has already surpassed the tally of last season’s top scorer Andre Ayew.

Victory at The Den stretched Swansea’s unbeaten run to four games, and backed up their south Wales derby triumph in impressive fashion.

And Piroe could not hide his happiness on an individual and collective level.

”I’m very happy. We deserved the win, I think we should have scored more and made the game a bit easier for ourselves,” he said.

“The last 15 minutes, we had to match their fight and show that we really wanted to win here and I think we did that.

“It was very important for us. Saturday was a special game but we keep going on and every game is worth three points, so we just have to get as many as we can.

“Obviously it is nice to score too, I am very happy. When you come here and you know you’re trying to replace someone like Andre Ayew, you want to try and match what he did so to score more is wonderful.

“My target is to try and get to 20 – for sure, I want to reach 20.

“We have set the bar at a good level for ourselves now, so we just need to keep at that level and keep going."
