Joel Piroe insists his sole focus is on performing well for Swansea City and he is happy to have remained in SA1 following the end of the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman was the subject of much transfer speculation over the summer, having netted 24 goals during an outstanding debut season in Swans colours after arriving from PSV Eindhoven.

However, he has remained with the club and will be looking to build on scoring two goals in his last two games against Middlesbrough and Stoke.

And Piroe was happy to see the window close and to still be part of Russell Martin’s squad.

“I am happy to still be here,” he said.

“As I have said before, you do not know what the future can hold, but I am enjoying my time playing for Swansea.

“I think it is good that the window has closed and we have kept a good squad to work with.

“Of course, I am happy to be here, I have seen and read a lot of things, but I am really happy to play here because this club and the fans have given me a lot of chances to show what I can do.

“I am really thankful for that. For sure, I want to help the club in any way I can.”

Piroe struck up a potent partnership with Michael Obafemi over the second half of last season, and the Republic of Ireland forward also remained with the Swans amidst speculation over his own future.

“I think Michael has been in a good place here and I think it is good for him that he stays here,” added Piroe.

“He still has ways to improve and develop as a player, and I think it is good that he is still with this club.

“He has real personality, he is one of a kind with the person he is and he is a good person to have around.”
