Joel Piroe | South Wales derby win sums up our team spirit

Cardiff away Joel Piroe goal

Joel Piroe feels the belief shown in Swansea City's dramatic late win over Cardiff City in the south Wales derby sums up the spirit of Russell Martin's side.

Piroe opened the scoring inside three minutes and Liam Cullen doubled the lead 30 minutes later at Cardiff City Stadium.

However, goals from Jaden Philogene and Sory Kaba drew the scores level with just seven minutes to play.

But there was a final twist in the contest though, as Ben Cabango capitalised from close range after Jay Fulton’s effort struck the post.

It was another example of the Swans finding a way late in a game and Piroe believes the celebrations from players, staff and fans encapsulate what these derby games mean.

“I think this is what it means to win a derby. It’s passion, it’s fight,” he said.

“I really loved the atmosphere. Our fans were great and it was a great win.

“We go up by two, then they come back and then the late winner. I think that’s the perfect derby.

“Of course [it’s one of the best feelings I’ve had in football]. When we did it last year, it felt amazing. But this year, I think that result sums us up as well.

“We’ve been in a difficult period, so to win like this just shows how much we believe in ourselves.

“We want to keep winning until the end of the season, we’ll see how we end up.”
