Joel Piroe celebrates goal against Watford

Joel Piroe has urged Swansea City to build on their excellent win over Watford and back it up with another positive showing against Championship leaders Burnley on Monday.

The Dutchman took his tally for the season to eight with an excellent brace in the 4-0 thumping of the Hornets on Friday.

His first saw him sweep home from Liam Cullen’s pass, before he added his second and Swansea’s third of the night with an imperious finish from the edge of the area.

The win saw the Swans move back into the top half of the table and to within a point of the play-off places.

Having seen off one of the division’s main promotion contenders in Watford, they now take on another side relegated from the Premier League last term.

Burnley currently sit top of the pile and have been on an outstanding run of form that has seen them win 10 of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Vincent Kompany’s side will provide a tough test, but Piroe feels the Swans are capable of taking the game to the Clarets if they can bring the same energy to their performance as against Watford.

“We can take a lot of confidence from this performance and result, of course,” he said.

“We knew coming into these games that Burnley and Watford are some strong teams. They have come down from the Premier League.

“We know we can expect another tough test on Monday, so we need to take the good stuff from the Watford game and look to take it on again.

“The Watford game was a perfect way to end the year, it is what we have been waiting for. I think it finally all came together for us.

“Not we want to make sure we start 2023 well in front of our own fans, who have been brilliant for us even when the results have not been going so well.”
