Jordi expects Eibar test

24th July
Pre-season

Jordi Amat is savouring his second coming at Swansea City as he gets set for tonight’s friendly meeting with SD Eibar.

The Spaniard is poised to feature against his fellow countrymen having faced them twice during his stint on loan with Real Betis last season.

Betis were beaten 5-0 at Eibar in November before winning the return fixture 2-0 in Seville in April.

And Amat reckons the Basque Country side will provide the Swans with a strong examination when they meet in Austria this evening (6pm UK time).

“Eibar are a good team and it will be a good test for us, especially now that we are into the last couple of weeks of pre-season,” the central defender said.

“They finished ninth in La Liga last season. They are a typical Spanish team – they want to try to keep the ball and play good football, the same as we do, so I think it will be a good game.

“At Real Betis we lost once against them – I don’t want to remember that game, although we were a bit unlucky as we had one player sent off and a penalty against us.

“We beat them later in the season but they are a strong team.

“They have a good coach who wants to play good football and they also work a lot.”

Amat has figured in both central midfield and at the back during the Swans’ pre-season campaign. The 26-year-old is back at the Liberty having helped Betis to a laudable sixth-place finish in La Liga last term.

And he has been impressed with the work being done by new manager Graham Potter and his staff.

“It has been good being back of course,” Amat said.

“The training has been good and we are all working hard to get fit for the new season.

“I like what the manager is trying to do. He wants to play good football and that’s perfect for the Swans. I think that’s the most important thing for the club.

“We have a nice idea and everyone needs to follow it.”
