Joseph Opoku | I can't wait to keep the Ghana name high at Swansea City

Joseph Opoku is hoping to continue the successful run of Ghanians at Swansea City as he from joins from Belgian Pro League side Zulte Warerem.

He becomes Swansea City's second signing in just under 24 hours as New Zealand winger Elijah Just made the switch from Motherwell on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old signs on a four-year deal which includes the option of an additional 12 months. A youth product of Ghanaian club Great Corinthians FC, Opuku made the switch to Belgium in 2024 to join Pro League side, Jong Essevee. 

After a successful breakthrough 2025/26 campaign for the Belgian side – where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 34 league appearances - he made his first senior appearance for Ghana in May 2026.

And Opoku hopes to follow in the Ayew brothers' footsteps at Swansea City.

"I'm excited to be here," said Opoku.

"The first training session was good. It suits my style.

"Andre and Jordan Ayew did great things here, I think they are legends in Ghana and they have both captained Ghana national team. I hope I can play well in Swansea to keep the Ghana name high.

"It's such a special moment for me and my family. You play football for these moments so I was so excited.I think I’m strong, powerful, a goalscorer and can get a lot of assists. 

"I think as a player you have to challenge yourself. I think it will be tough but we will find a way as a team.

"I hope to get a lot of goals and assists. I think I can help the team and I think the team can help me to get the best out of myself this season."
