Josh Sheehan has returned to Swansea City after suffering a knee injury while on loan at Newport County.
The midfielder has impressed since joining Newport on loan last August, scoring seven times in 25 appearances for the League Two club.
He had been due to stay with the Exiles for the rest of the season, but he is back at the Liberty as he will not be fit to play again in 2016-17.
The 21-year-old has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will require surgery.
"The club would like to thank Josh for his contribution so far this season and wish him a speedy recovery," said a statement from Newport.
"We would like to thank Swansea City for the loan of their young talented player, as we continue to work in partnership with the Premier League club."
Welsh Under-21 international Sheehan has also spent time on loan at Yeovil, while his one Swans appearance came in the League Cup back in 2014.
