Kaelan Casey | We can be proud, there is a lot we can take from that
Kaelan Casey feels Swansea City can take a lot of heart and confidence from their performance in the 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City.
The Swans exited the League Cup at the Swansea.com Stadium but only after pushing Pep Guardiola’s star-studded visitors all the way.
Following a fast start from the hosts, Goncalo Franco brilliantly fired the Swans ahead, and they had a big chance to double their lead when Melker Widell was denied by James Trafford.
City levelled through a deflected Jeremy Doku strike just before half-time, but they only took the lead with 13 minutes to go when Omar Marmoush rifled in from a tight angle, before Rayan Cherki added a third late on.
Casey was among a number of stand-out performers in white shirts, and the on-loan West Ham defender hopes the Swans can move forward positively ahead of the weekend trip to Charlton.
“I think we can be proud, even though we don’t get the result,” he said.
“We started well and got the goal, but City do what they do, they own you in and it becomes very difficult to get out.
“We defended well as a group but it just wasn’t to be in the end.
“It was great to be involved, I am learning so much every day working with the likes of Cam Burgess and Ben Cabango, and I hope I can get more chances in the future.
“And as a team we showed some of the qualities we have against one of the very best teams around.
“We go back to the league now and hopefully, having also beaten Norwich last week, this can be an important step.”
