Ladies up to second after win over Cwmbran

22nd April

Swansea City Ladies continued their quest for a top two finish in the Welsh Premier League with a battling 3-2 victory over Cwmbran Celtic at Celtic Park.
The Swans started brightly and took the lead in the sixth minute when a long clearance from goalkeeper Ffion Ashman found its way to Emma Beynon on the right wing and her cross was neatly finished by Jodie Passmore.
Going a goal down spurred Cwmbran nto action and they equalised after 13 minutes with a calm finish.
The hosts continued to apply the pressure and a minute later they took the lead via the penalty spot following a foul by Emily Hancock.
Jodie Passmore got her second of the match with five minutes of the first half remaining, while the Swans could have regained the lead just before the interval but Sophie Hancock's shot came back off the bar.
Both teams continued to create chances in the second half without troubling either keeper, until the 73rd minute when a cross by Emma Beynon bounced up and flew into the net to give the Swans a 3-2 lead.
The game could have been sealed seven minutes later when a snap-shot by Welsh international Chloe Lloyd landed on the top of the net.
The victory moves the Swans up to second place in the table with three games remaining, including what could be a title decider against Cardiff Met on April 26.
