Ladies off to a winning start

11th August

Swans Ladies travelled to Kenysham Town on Sunday (August 11) for their first pre-season friendly.
Keynsham, who play one level below the English Women's Super League, fielded an experienced team with several ex-Cardiff City players and former Swan Rachel Cullen in the side.
The hosts took the lead on 20 minutes after a nervous start from the young Swans team.
The visitors regrouped and five minutes before the break got the equaliser, Emma Beynon outpacing the home defence and confidently finishing from the edge of box.
The Swans made six changes at half-time and started the second half with real determination, keeping possession and attacking with pace and Sarah Adams constantly causing problems for the home side.
Kirsty O'Donnell's strike proved the difference as she put the Swans in the lead with a powerful strike from 20 yards, and this saw the team grow in confidence as they remained disciplined in defence while catching the home side on the counter.
"This was a great start to this season's campaign," said manager Ian Owen. "There were a lot of players making their debuts and playing their first senior games today so to come here and beat such an experienced outfit is very pleasing.
"Special mention to Emma Beynon, who has been selected for the Welsh Under-19 squad taking part in the European Women's U19 championship being held in West Wales over the next few weeks, and also Chloe Lloyd who is on standby good luck to everyone involved."
