Lawrence Vigouroux spoke of his pride after captaining Swansea City for the first time as they made it back-to-back victories with a 2-0 win over Watford.

The goalkeeper was handed the armband as the Swans preserved their unbeaten start to the Championship season with a convincing victory at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Ji-sung Eom and Adam Idah were on target as to secure their third clean sheet in four league games and moved to the top of the Championship table after four matches for the first time since 2019.

And Vigouroux was pleased with the way Swansea controlled the game, particularly during the opening 45 minutes.

“I thought we were brilliant in the first half,” he said.

“We came out on the front foot, pressed really well, played with the ball really well, and we deserved to be two goals up.

“It was a really good performance, and hopefully we can take that into Saturday, because we know that will be another good game.”

The result was made all the more memorable for Vigouroux, who was entrusted with the captaincy for the first time since arriving at the club.

“It was a massive privilege for me ” he added.

“I didn’t really expect it, but I’m quite experienced within the group, so I think I can help a lot of the younger players. It’s just about being trusted.

“It was something that was really special for me and my family too.”

That sense of responsibility comes alongside an increasingly impressive defensive record, with Swansea having conceded just twice in their opening four league fixtures.

Vigouroux believes that consistency has been built through the work put in away from matchdays, with the squad placing a strong emphasis on their organisation and collective responsibilities.

“We work on our defensive structure a lot on the training ground and on being a really strong defensive unit,” he continued.

“We have great coaching from all the staff, both out of possession and in possession. We work really hard on everything, and I think we’ve deserved the clean sheets we’ve had.

“Everyone across the board has been outstanding.”

Attention now switches to Saturday's meeting with Wrexham, with another test awaiting the Swans as they look to preserve their unbeaten record and stay at the summit.

Vigouroux is already looking forward to what promises to be another lively occasion at the Swansea.com Stadium, particularly given the atmosphere when the two sides met in SA1 last season.

“The mood is really good at the moment and everyone is really happy,” he finished.

“We take it game by game, as we know it’s a really tough league. There are loads of games coming up, and hopefully we can get another three points on Saturday.

“I’m really excited for that one.Last time we had them here, the atmosphere was incredible. It’s something not just the new lads, but those who were involved last year, want to experience again.

“We’ve got to work really hard in training again this week, and hopefully we can get three points at the weekend.”
