Liam Walsh is keen to kick on and try and challenge for a regular starting spot after being named in the Swansea City XI for the first time this season in the draw against Huddersfield Town.

Walsh made his seventh appearance of the season against the Terriers, making his first start since the draw with Coventry City back in April, and got 72 minutes under his belt.

The 26-year-old created three chances and completed 83 per cent of his passes as the Swans sought an equaliser following Ben Cabango’s own goal.

They would eventually find a leveller late on through Charlie Patino but Walsh and his teammates were frustrated not to have come away with three points, despite the playmaker being pleased to have been handed a start.

“I am obviously pleased to have started because I have been working hard and pushing for it,” said Walsh.

“I need to keep working hard to get more minute and keep helping the team, but the feeling is frustration more than anything because we haven’t won.

“We have dominated most of the game but we have conceded some sloppy goals recently that have cost us, and we need to cut those out as a team.

“We should have been coming away with three points, we had the chances to do that, and a point is not good enough when we have so much of the game.

“We need to reflect on this and get ourselves ready to go again against Rotherham next weekend.”

Walsh dovetailed particularly well with Jamie Paterson in the middle of the park, with the pair having played together over a number of years at Bristol City and now with the Swans.

And Walsh enjoyed linking up with his fellow playmaker.

“I have played with Pato for about six or seven years now and we have always got on well and had that good understanding,” he said.

“It’s there in training every day where we are always looking to play off each other, we know each other’s games and we know what the other is looking to do.

“I hope we will get more minutes together because the more we do that then the better that understanding will be, but he’s definitely the sort of player you like having in your team.”
