Luke Williams | We have to show more intensity and aggression

Head coach Luke Williams has told his Swansea City players they have to be prepared to play with greater intensity and aggression after their 4-0 defeat against Leeds United.

Crysencio Summerville and Joel Piroe had the Yorkshire club 2-0 up inside 10 minutes, and Wilfried Gnonto added to their tally before the break.

Italy international Gnonto would add his second of the evening with 20 minutes to go to complete the scoring.

The Swans had entered the game on the back of victory against Hull City, and Williams was frustrated his side had not given a better account of themselves against their high-flying opponents.

“We got blown away. I know they’re a top side, but we have to learn to play football at a higher intensity,” he said.

“If we don’t learn to play football like that, then you can’t play against the top teams or even be in the game.

“We were far too deep last time we played a top team here and couldn’t get any pressure or actions at the other end of the pitch and it was over after 15 minutes.

“This time, we tried to be more aggressive, but you have to commit completely to that and we didn’t do that either.

“So, it’s over again, before we can even make a foothold in the game. We have to learn to play at a much higher level of football so we can start competing.

“There was too much hesitation, we were too scared to fully commit to the press because we don’t want to get picked off, but if you stand off good players they’re going to pick you off anyway.

“We have to play with a higher level of intensity and concentration, and be braver.”
