Matt Gill has challenged Swansea City to finish a positive week on a high and make it three wins on the trot when they host Derby County this afternoon (3pm).

The Swans host the Rams on the back of two excellent performances and results against Cardiff and Millwall.

The 4-0 win at Cardiff – which clinched an historic first south Wales derby league double in 110 years – was backed up by an impressive 1-0 victory at play-off chasing Millwall in midweek.

The Swans have yet to string together three positive results in a week this season, and technical development coach Gill has spoken of the desire to reach that target before the campaign is out, against a Rams side fighting for their lives.

“I think we have been progressing the whole time, the manager has talked about the process,” said Gill.

“We didn’t have a pre-season. We’d like to think we’re gradually getting better throughout the season. Nothing changes for us. We have unit meetings after games, win, lose or draw.

“We’re really pleased with performances, and that’s the most pleasing thing for staff.

“We are excited about where we are going, very much so, but there’s still a long way to go in the season.

Matt Gill press conference

“There’s certain targets we set ourselves with 16 games to go. Three clean sheets in a row was one of those, and we are pleased to have done that.

“We’ll treat every game as importantly as we should. I’m looking forward to this last period.

“There’s seven games left. We want to finish as high up as possible in the table.

“We know we need to be right at it because of what is at stake for Derby. It’s certainly down to us.

“We’re really keen on putting this third game in a week to bed. It’s a real focus for us to perform in a Championship week.

“We’re looking to finish off the week really well. It’s a really important game to us as well, and we recognise what’s on it for Derby.”
