Matt Grimes hopes Swansea City can ensure they end a busy festive period in credit with victory over Charlton.

Steve Cooper’s side have lost just one of their first four festive fixtures, beating Middlesbrough and Luton and drawing with Barnsley.

They round off a hectic schedule when Charlton visit the Liberty on Thursday for the first Swans game of a new year and a new decade.

And, while frustrated at being unable to make the most of the chances created against Barnsley, captain Grimes believes it will have been a successful few weeks for the Swans if they can round it off with three points.

“It’s important that we don’t dwell on the frustrations of the Barnsley game; we have to take the positives, see where we can improve and try to take it onto the pitch in our next game,” said the midfielder.

“We always want to start the year well. A game at home against Charlton is a really good way to do that. We just need to take the positives and crack on to try and get three points on Thursday.

“Playing away at Charlton was a tough game. They’re a hard-working team and play a similar shape to what Luton and Barnsley did. They have some good players that can hurt you, so it will be a tough game.

“It’s vitally important now over this period that we all stick together. We’ve got a couple of decent wins, we’ll take a draw from Barnsley and, hopefully, we can try and get the win on Thursday.

“If we can do that, I think it will have been a successful period.”
