Matt Grimes feels Freddie Woodman’s excellent display for Swansea City against Fulham should have come as no surprise to anyone.

The on-loan Newcastle keeper came so close to an 11th clean sheet in 35 games after his wonderful penalty save and follow-up denied Aleksandar Mitrovic and Neeskens Kebano late on at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Unfortunately for Woodman and the Swans, they were denied a hard-earned point by the Serbian’s towering last-gasp header.

Aside from those two stunning saves, Woodman also showed real authority in the air as he made a number of impressive claims.

And skipper Grimes was full of praise for his showing, and hopes he and the Swans squad can quickly put their heartbreak behind them and regroup to face Blackburn on Saturday.

“That is what we have come to expect from Freddie, he is a fantastic keeper and a great lad as well,” said the midfielder.

“He really kept us in the game at the end and it was a valiant effort from him and the lads.

“To a man I thought we were fantastic tonight defensively and we need to draw the positives from the performance and go again on Saturday.

“It’s a game that we are looking to win. Blackburn is always a tough place to visit but it is another opportunity for us to pick up the three points.

“Now we have to dust ourselves down and get ready for another important game.”
