Matt Grimes | Team spirit was key

Proud captain Matt Grimes believes team spirit played a key part in Swansea City’s opening-day win over Hull City at the Liberty.

Head coach Steve Cooper got off to a winning start as his side recovered from conceding a third-minute goal as second-half strikes from Borja and Mike van der Hoorn sealed three points.

And Grimes, who has been handed the captain’s armband by Cooper this season, felt the togetherness of the squad was a vital factor in the home win.

“We’ve got good spirit in the camp. We’re a really tight-knit group,” said the midfielder.

“Like we showed last week against Atalanta, we’re very together and are capable of coming from behind to win games. That’s a credit to all the lads.

“Our first half performance wasn’t our best; it took us a while to get going. But in the second half, we showed exactly what we’re about and at the end of the game, I thought we deserved to win. You can’t get much better than starting the season getting three points at home.”
