Matt Grimes | We only have ourselves to blame

Captain Matt Grimes conceded Swansea City only had themselves to blame after a disappointing home defeat to Luton Town.

James Collins’ 73rd-minute header proved the difference at the Liberty as the Hatters climbed off the bottom of the Championship while the Swans slipped four points adrift of the play-offs.

Steve Cooper’s side were reduced to 10 men when sub Jordon Garrick was dismissed following a scuffle.

But Grimes admitted the Swans, who had beaten Middlesbrough 3-0 last weekend, were nowhere near good enough on the day.

“We were way off it,” said the midfielder. “We can’t expect to play like that and win a game of football. It was all our own making; we were nowhere near good enough.

“To perform as well as we did last week and win 3-0, then go and do that today is not good at all.

“It was a slow start. When you don’t win, you must try to make sure you don’t lose. To give away a sloppy goal like that was not good, but the whole day was poor from start to finish. We’ll look at ourselves and try to bounce back.”

The Swans are back on the road on Tuesday when they face Millwall at The Den (5pm).

And Grimes wants to see a reaction from the squad in London.

“The games come thick and fast so there’s no time to dwell,” he added.

“We know we were nowhere near good enough on Saturday, so we must try to get on with it and crack on with the next game.

“We need to make amends because it was a poor performance and we’re much better than that.

“We just need to do analyse what we could have done better and go again.

“We need to back up good performances with more good performances and more points. We didn’t do that on Saturday, so we must bounce back next week.”
