Matt Grimes | We will miss our fans, but we want to get a result for them

Matt Grimes admits it will be strange for Swansea City to play at the Liberty Stadium without the Jack Army roaring them on, but he and his team-mates are desperate to give fans more reason for cheer when they face Luton today.

The clash with the Hatters is the Swans first home fixture since the Championship season was allowed to resume amidst the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

They returned to action in fine style with a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough last weekend, closing them to within a point of the top six.

Normally Grimes and the rest of Steve Cooper’s squad would be looking forward to getting back in front of the fervent support of the Jack Army as they look to continue that play-off push.

But the measures required to prevent the spread of Covid-19 mean there will be no supporters at the home of the Swans as they take on the Championship’s basement side.

While the players will miss that support, they are looking to ease some of the disappointment felt by their fans by continuing their successful return to action.

“We had an almost perfect first 35 minutes at Middlesbrough last time out, and we are only a point away from the play-offs now, so we want to give it our all,” said Grimes.

“That’s been the message throughout the period away and we will see where it takes us.

“We have to back up the Middlesbrough result, it will be strange playing without our fans behind us but we know they are all watching and we are doing it for them.”
