Matt Grimes | We've hit the ground running

Captain Matt Grimes feels Swansea City’s quick adaptation to football’s ‘new normal’ has given them the chance to hit the ground running in the final stage of the Championship play-off chase.

After a three-month lay-off, the Swans showed few signs of rust as they secured a 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last weekend.

The result moved Steve Cooper’s side to within a point of the play-off places ahead of the forthcoming Liberty Stadium meeting with Luton.

The hard work put in by players and staff during the enforced suspension of action was clear to see on Teesside.

And Grimes hopes the manner in which Swansea adjusted to playing behind closed doors proves the foundation for a strong end to the season.

“It’s fantastic to be back, we have been away a long time and to get the feeling of playing on Saturday is one we have missed dearly,” said the midfielder.

“It was a very strange atmosphere without the fans, but it is going to be the norm for a little while so we have to adapt to that and get used to it as quick as possible.

“I thought we adjusted to it well at Middlesbrough, and we played some really good football.

“We’ve hit the ground running so we are very happy and we can move forward with confidence.”
