Darren England blows his whistle

Darren England will be the man in charge of Thursday evening’s Emirates FA Cup clash between Swansea City and Bournemouth (7.45pm kick-off).

VAR will be in place at the Premier League ground with Thomas Brammall, Paul Tierney and Constantine Hatzidakis set to watch the game from PGMOL’s Stockley Park, while Daniel Robathan and Daniel League will be the assistants and James Linington is set to be fourth official.

England is a FIFA-listed referee who was promoted to the Premier League in the summer of 2020. He began his career as an assistant running the line in the top-flight between 2012 and 2015 before swapping the flag for a whistle.

The official from Doncaster impressed in the lower leagues and was rewarded with the 2017 League Two play-off final between Blackpool and Exeter City at Wembley. That summer he was promoted to Select Group 2.

His 2023-24 season began with a trip to North Macedonia as he took charge of a Champions League qualifying match between Struga and Zalgiris.

England then oversaw a dramatic 4-4 draw between Southampton and Norwich in the Championship before taking charge of a Europa Conference League match. In total this season, he has overseen 17 games, mainly in the top-two tiers and he most recently took charge of Brentford’s home match against Nottingham Forest.

Thursday’s match will be the fifth time he has taken charge of Swans match, the most recent of these was a Championship meeting with Norwich City in November of 2020.
