Meet the officials | Queens Park Rangers

First team

Stephen Martin will be the man in the middle when Swansea City host Queens Park Rangers at the Swansea.com Stadium for the 2021-22 season finale on Saturday.

Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with both his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years.

He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials.

Across his decade in the EFL, he has taken charge of 10 Swans games, eight of those league matches, while this will be the third time he has overseen a match between both of Saturday’s teams.

The sides have a win apiece from those previous efforts, with the Swans seeing off QPR in a 2-0 away victory in December 2020, while the home side had the bragging rights in a 5-1 FA Cup defeat at Loftus Road earlier that year.

Martin has already overseen a Swans match this season. He was in charge when Swansea travelled to Blackpool in March. He handed out two yellow cards on that occasion with both Kyle Naughton and Flynn Downes booked.

So far this season, he has taken charge of 33 matches handing out 98 yellow cards and four reds.

This weekend, he will be assisted by James Wilson and Nicholas Barnard. James Oldham will be the fourth official.
