Meet the opposition | Queens Park Rangers
As Swansea City get set to lock horns with Queens Park Rangers, we take a closer look at the R’s.
What’s their story?
Founded in 1886, the Rs played at 20 different grounds before settling down at Loftus Road in 1917.
They joined the Football League three years later in 1920, and their highest-ever league position coming in the 1975-76 season when Dave Sexton led the club to the runners-up position in Division One as they narrowly missed out on the title by one point.
They went on to reach the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup the following season, losing out to AEK Athens on penalties. They won their only major honour courtesy of a League Cup triumph in 1967 when they beat top-flight West Bromwich Albion whilst playing in the Third Division.
Rangers were in the Premier League at its formation in 1992, and their most recent top-flight campaign came during the 2014-15 season.
How's their form?
Queens Park Rangers have made a steady start to the Championship season, sitting just outside the play-off places after 11 games, with four wins, five draws and two defeats.
The R’s have recorded notable victories over Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City, while also earning a credible 1-1 draw at West Ham United.
Who's the gaffer?
Julien Stéphan was appointed head coach of Queens Park Rangers in June 2025, arriving in west London with extensive experience of French football.
He made his name at Rennes, initially taking charge on an interim basis in December 2018 before being appointed permanently. He led the club to Coupe de France success in 2019, beating Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in the final, before guiding Rennes to third place in Ligue 1 the following season and securing Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.
Stéphan later took charge of Strasbourg in 2021, leading them to a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1 during his first season. He departed in January 2023 before returning to management with QPR.
Before transitioning into coaching, Stéphan enjoyed a brief playing career as a defensive midfielder, featuring at youth level for Lyon, Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain before playing for several clubs in the French lower leagues.

Former Manchester United youngster Jimmy Dunne is the current club captain of Queens Park Rangers, having become a popular figure since joining the R’s in the summer of 2021.
The Republic of Ireland defender arrived at Loftus Road after five years with Burnley, having gained valuable experience through loan spells at Barrow, Accrington Stanley, Hearts, Sunderland and Fleetwood Town.
Dunne helped Accrington win the League Two title in 2018 and also featured in Sunderland’s run to the League One play-off final. Comfortable at both centre-back and right-back, he has established himself as an important figure at QPR.
