Steve Cooper says Mike van der Hoorn is set to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The Dutchman visited a specialist on Tuesday to assess his recovery from the problem that first reared its head in the warm-up at Brentford, and then forced him off during the home win over Charlton.

The Swans boss had hoped the former Ajax man was not too far away from a return to training, but a scan revealed he needed to undergo surgery and that is likely to curtail his 2019-20 campaign.

“There is an update on Mike, he has had to have an operation today,” said Cooper.

“That is unfortunate for him, he had a check-up scan yesterday but it showed the knee had not recovered as we thought it would and should.

“He has had surgery straight away, which pretty much rules him out for the season.

“He might make the last game of the season and – Mike being Mike – he is thinking that way.

“But he has had a tough one.”
